Yoga Class Descriptions

All Levels

Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving mobility and flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality.

Yin practice is similar to restorative yoga; but in contrast we are looking for a bit of a stretch in the area of the body that is targeted in a particular pose. Although the central aids are gravity and breath, with the use of props we are able to stay in a pose for an extended  period of time in relaxed awareness. The poses are usually floor poses. In one session, we typically do between four to six poses.

Suggested Props:

Yoga Mat (or a carpeted floor)

Yoga Blocks (or thick books - as thick as you have - at least two of similar thickness)

Yoga Bolster

Bolster Alternatives:

A thick rolled up blanket or comforter

Couch cushions/couch bolster

A few bed pillows

All Levels

In this class we start out with approximately 15 minutes of gentle warm up and stretching with a variety of easeful poses. Once we are adequately warmed up, we will focus on the poses one at a time, taking the time to find the best way for your body to move into the pose while paying close attention to body alignment, mobility and strength. We will do a few different sequences of poses, touching on strength, stability and core work. Breath, focus and movement keep us centered and present in our practice. We will end the class with approximately 15 minutes of restorative poses, ending in a short deep rest / meditation.

Suggested Props: Towel, Water Bottle, Blocks and Strap
